Officially, the first music video the Goo Goo Dolls ever released was the one for the song “There You Are“. In reality, there were at least two others (that I know of) which were recorded but not released to the media. The oldest one was for “No Way Out“. Nothing is known about it. I remember reading somewhere that it was recorded by John’s then girlfriend Laurie Kwasnik, the one who also helped him get into College to study to become a repairman, specifically a plumber. Laurie Kwasnik, along the years, has become a very successful filmmaker. She has an IMDB page too, located here.
After that, they did another video, this time for “Laughing“. I knew it existed but had never been able to locate it, until a few weeks ago. I’m not sure when it surfaced online, anyway the website GooGooFans uploaded a copy of it here. There is no info in terms of who directed it. The clip itself is your typical 1990’s music video, featuring the band performing live and the members goofing around the city, which in this case was their hometown Buffalo, NY.
This is extremely rare material, as the band probably just used it to promote the release for their new album “Hold Me Up” by only distributing it to people they knew. It was not aired on TV. You can enjoy it below. The quality is not that great, unfortunately. Download links are provided as well, to preserve this masterpiece in time and space.
Again, many thanks to GooGooFans for being the first to upload this historical document.
