Just like their previous three albums, the Goo Goo Dolls wanted to include at least one cover song in their new release, 1993’s Superstar Car Wash. This time, they opted for “Next To You“, originally performed by The Police.
In one of the many Superstar Car Wash demo sessions, an instrumental demo they recorded for it makes its appearance. In the end, the song never made it past its demo incarnation, and Superstar Car Wash ended up being the first Goo Goo Dolls album not to include a cover song.
I personally don’t like it much and I think it wouldn’t have properly fitted with the overall album mood and musical direction. Either way, you can listen to it below, and even download it if you want by clicking on the links provided below.
