Another very rare audio material, unearthed from the depths on the worldwide web. Today I want to share with you a 3-song cassette sampler titled “La Di Da”, and performed by a band called Sex Maggot. Who were they? They were the Goo Goo Dolls, before they changed their name to the actual one. If I remember correctly, Sex Maggot was later converted into Sex Maggots, a name that was then dropped for Goo Goo Dolls when they released their first album back in 1987.
This cassette was recorded in 1985, and features the original members (John, Robby, and former drummer George Tutuska). In it, we find three songs. The overall recording quality is quite good for its time, I’m surprised to say. The first one is “Sex Maggot“, which ended up being included in their sophomore release “Jed”. The other two might be covers. I am not sure, as I did not recognize them. If you do, please reach out to me so I can give them proper credit.
Enjoy this piece of history by watching the video below, which was originally posted here. Download links are provided as well.
I love how I’m just seeing this post, but the third song they played was “Humble Me” (Em Elbmuh) with lyrics, probably just a really rough demo they did for it, which then turned into the recording that’s on “Jed”
Maybe we can find the second cover by… searching on google any title + the artist. I suggest maybe Fly So High or Fly To The Sky, but i don’t know which band could it be. Maybe it is from some of the bands they did covers of?
Yeah, it might be. The last song was recognized as the original version of “Humble Me”, which in Jed appears incomplete and with a reversed title as “Em Elbmuh”. For the second one, no idea. I have tried your methods as well but I came up with too many Google results, heh.
