Figure 8 feat. Mike Malinin – “Hush”

Some time ago an individual named Ryan Sanders sent me an email through the Get In Touch page. He told me that he plays in a band called Figure 8, and that they recorded a song with none other than Mike Malinin on drums. To those who don’t know who Mike is (the very few of you!): he is the one who replaced the original drummer George Tutuska in 1995. He was part of the Goo Goo Dolls until 2013.

Figure 8 and Mike recorded a song together called “Hush“, which appears on their 5-song EP “Ex Nihilo“, released in 2021. Furthermore, we have another Goo connection here. The EP was produced and mixed by Tim Palmer, who worked on the Goo Goo Dolls’ 2010 album “Something For The Rest Of Us“.

I listened to “Hush” and it gives me “Dizzy Up The Girl” vibes. Obviously the production quality here is very high (given the details I provided above) and I like the energy and melody approach Figure 8 shows off right at the beginning of the track. I invite you all to check it out and to support the band because they are clearly talented and very Goo-oriented in terms of musicality. Links are at the end of this post.

OK, so below you can see a short clip of Mike Malinin working on the song.

And here is the song “Hush” in all of its glory.

If this band tickled you in the right spot, here are some links to satisfy your curiosity.
