Live At Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, CO (June 27th, 2007)

It is a good habit not to focus too much on old Goo, a prerogative of this blog, and sometimes enjoy the post-Gutterflower, “modern” version of the band. Here is the perfect occasion to achieve such goal, that is with a very good concert from the “Let Love In” tour.

The band played at the Red Rocks Amphiteatre on June 27th, 2007. This is one of their most “recent” performances that can also be experienced from a video standpoint, its clips having being present on YouTube for quite a long time. I will post a link to the visual material below. Instead, I am publishing the audio version of the concert, which comes with very high-quality sound.

There is really not much to talk about here. You get your typical set list featuring a few old classics, and a bunch of then-new songs. I find it a bit strange that the band did not perform many “Let Love In” songs in this instance. Out of 19 tunes, only five of them were taken from the then-newest release. I thought the album was OK, with a couple of very interesting ideas, but overall I felt it was trying to give out a message in terms of deviating toward a different musical direction, more than anything. I’m speculating when they initiated the dedicated tour in 2006, the Goo Goo Dolls perceived the new songs were not as galvanizing to the fans as they thought they were, and probably decided to fill their set lists with older, more welcomed material… Or maybe I’m just reading too much into a non-existent matter.

Anyway, what’s notable here is the song “Before It’s Too Late“, which overall they do not play much. Like I said, the audio quality here is excellent and it is the best selling point for this release.
