Here is another extremely rare document from YouTube user JohnnyGooGoo. A peculiar, acoustic set recorded in 1994 and only comprising of a total of four songs.
I mentioned many times that anything that is 1992, 1994, or 1997 is quite rare to get your hands on. Those were transitional years within which the band was going through something, whether on a personal or musical level. Consequently, any piece of material generated from those years is an invaluable treasure to preserve and diffuse.
Today I am sharing with you their performance at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. Please notice that Setlist has this listed as a Los Angeles concert. That entry is actually incorrect. The performance took place on December 14th, 1994. There are three very important insights to consider here:
- An acoustic version of “Already There“, which is very much rare
- It is very likely this is the first time they played their hit “Name“, which is introduced simply as “our new song”
- We get to experience one of former drummer George Tutuska‘s last performances before he left (or was kicked by) the band. His very last concert would take place exactly two weeks after this event
Overall, not only we’re looking at a very nice and intimate concert here, despite its short running time, but this is also an audio documenting the few moments before the Goo Goo Dolls permanently changed their shape (musically, artistically, members-wise) after giving birth to their creation almost ten years earlier. A few weeks/months after this concert their lives mutated in a way they couldn’t possibly imagine, for better and, in reference to some, for worse.
You can enjoy this precious concert below. Download links are provided at the end of this post. Thanks again to the original poster for sharing it.
PLEASE NOTICE: You will be downloading a single audio file for the entire concert, rather than a file for each song. Also, the file is encoded in the .m4a format, which some players may not be capable of playing.
