MTV Loveline (1998)

After only three weeks since the release of “Dizzy Up The Girl”, on November 18th, 1998, the Goo Goo Dolls made an appearance on the TV show Loveline, produced by MTV. It is time to share it (once again) with the world.

Loveline was a talk show about issues related to relationships and sex life. Not my cup of tea honestly, I believe shows like that were not made up of real people who had decided to discuss their real-life problems on national TV in front of millions of viewers, but rather pseudo-actors and actresses reciting from a script. I remember we had its counterpart in my country, it shared the same name as the original USA programme, but at least it was more scientific-oriented.

Either way, the band was invited to offer their point of views on the presented matters. I personally did not feel like this was necessary. John, Robby, and Mike only get to utter a few sentences here and there throughout the whole episode, while the rest of it is about the hosts making cheap fun of the young adults who talk about their scripted issues. I also get the feeling the Dolls were a bit uncomfortable in that context, and probably forced to be there by their label merely as a way to promote their then-new fantastic album.

Another bad note: unfortunately, whoever ripped this did not put much thought into it. The file I got had been created with a very low resolution (352×272), so don’t expect the best video quality. It is still watchable, but it pales even when compared to the standards of its time. Until a better version comes out (do we really need it though?), this is what I can offer.
