Just off the press, here’s another amazing concert from our best source Mr. Sean Hampson. Today we share an “Hold Me Up” show loaded with a total of 20 songs.
Before continuing, make sure you check the Sean category to verify you are up to date with the releases he’s been providing this blog with so far.
I don’t have a precise date in reference to when this show took place. It is a 1991 one, no doubt about that, but since setlist.fm provides two separate entries for what (I think) might be the same event (one, two) and they come with different dates, I’d rather not input that information here. On top of that, the track listing between what they claim and what Sean forwarded is a bit different.
What about the show itself? In my opinion, it’s a strong set with some then-new songs and a bunch of older punk-rock tunes from their previous two efforts. What’s notable here is a slightly faster-paced version of “James Dean” and the Elvis Presley cover for “Suspicious Minds“. Quality-wise, pretty good even though I noticed some reverberation issues here and there. I’m not sure if it was a setup fault with the instrumentation, or a recording one. Either way, this is a great performance which shows off a peculiar energy and confidence that became more apparent when the follow-up album was released a couple of years later.
Sean also created personalized covers for the bootleg, which you can see below.
