It’s time for another amazing Mr. Sean Hampson release. Today, he is sharing an additional contribution to the marvelous “Superstar Car Wash” era.
As always, don’t forget to check his category for a listing of the great Goo material he’s been providing us with for so long.
On January 30th, 1993, the Goo Goo Dolls performed at the famous New York venue CBGB. This was roughly three weeks before their forth effort was officially released in stores. Hence, it’s interesting to see peoples’ reaction to the then-new songs.
In terms of quality, I’d say it’s pretty good with a few rough edges here and there. This is certainly a very rare recording which features some interesting bits where the band talks and interacts with the crowd.
The second song is obviously a reference to John messing up the set list, and starting to play “Just The Way You Are” when instead he should have followed the opening track with “James Dean“.
I believe this is probably one of Sean’s, if not the, last release(s) covering the pre-“A Boy Named Goo” era. While we all anxiously await for his internet connection to send more stuff our way, don’t forget to thank him in the comments for his generosity.
I hope you enjoyed the older material that’s been shared on this blog. As far as I’m concerned, I will too also be moving to posting more “recent” releases in the coming weeks.
