It’s time to share with the world one of the best releases the Temple Of Goo has to offer. This is an hidden gem, in terms of rarity and visual content.
On March 26th, 1995, the Goo Goo Dolls hosted an entire episode of “MTV 120 Minutes“, a famous show which would air both official music videos and live performances of bands representing the Alternative sound universe.
The version I am sharing today is also titled “Dream Time” because at the end of the episode another longer segment was attached to it, which played late into the night, and it was mainly comprised of alternative music videos with a focus on nightly-oriented moods.
First and foremost, I obtained this amazing release from Archive.org, specifically from this page. You are more than welcome to visit it, and furthermore you can also download the original file, which includes the entire show (more than 3 hours of material). My version is basically a merged version of all the segments the Goo Goo Dolls made an appearance in, for a running total time of slightly more than 16 minutes.
Now, onto the show itself. Like I mentioned above, I consider this one of our blog’s best releases. Not only it comes with great audio/video quality (this is a VHS rip, analog-to-digital, standardized 480p video), but what stands out here is definitely the content itself.
We get a total of 14 segments whereby John and Robby introduce us to the next music clips in the playlist. Furthermore, after the first few, we also get to experience a fantastic live version of “Naked“. The duo cracks plenty of jokes, has a lot of fun, and laughs often. This is a very relaxed, informal, and funny TV appearances made by the band, probably the most iconic one of the “A Boy Named Goo” era. During the last segment, before saying farewell, then-drummer Mike Malinin also makes a brief appearance.
This is something every Goo fan should watch. Grab a beer and make yourself comfortable on the couch, you’re in for a super-fun ride.
Thanks to the original poster of the whole episode, who shared it on Archive.org — your contribution is highly appreciated.
You can watch the video below. Download links are available at the end of this post.
wow 30 years can do a lot. John is almost unrecognizable. Robby not so much.
Great show and really nice Naked!
