Live At The Hultsfred Festival, Sweden (1999)

The sixth album, “Dizzy Up The Girl”, offered the band the opportunity to play in Sweden for what most likely was their first time ever. Today, I am sharing with you all a release about such important event.

On June 17th, 1999, the Goo Goo Dolls performed at the Hultsfred Festival in Hultsfred, Sweden. My understanding is that the concert was also streamed on a Swedish radio station. The version I have is the result of someone recording the aforementioned stream.

In terms of the performance itself, this is a relatively short show (13 songs in total for about 50 minutes of running time), mainly focused on the then-last two albums (“Dizzy Up The Girl” and “A Boy Named Goo”). The song “Lazy Eye” makes a very welcome appearance as well, providing the crowd with its renowned energetic mood. Two other things worth mentioning:

  • We get to hear a near-perfect execution of “Girl Right Next To Me
  • The song “Naked” comes with a very cool drum intro performed by Mike Malinin

Quality-wise, the recording is very good and clean, no complaints on that matter. Unfortunately, whoever encoded the concert decided to do so only utilizing a bitrate of 160kbps. The minimum would be 192kbps. Does it matter? For bootlegs, not really. For audiophiles, it does.

In sum, this is an amazing show which comes with great quality and superb content. Don’t miss it.
