It’s time to dive back into the past, as we continue digging into the secrets of what I think is the best Goo Goo Dolls album ever made.
I have written plenty of stuff on the behind-the-scenes material which I was able to find about the production of “Superstar Car Wash”. For a general overview of the information I have been able to gather, you can read this post.
One of the most interesting bits about the history of the album has to do with the writing process, and how the latter did evolve before the band hit the studio to record their masterpiece. An insight into such matter is obviously provided by the infamous demo sessions leaks, which happened several years ago. This blog entry provides a detailed analysis of those sessions, along with some additional comments related to the songs which did not pass the final selection phase, and were shelved for good.
Recently I was able to find two more demos that were not included in any of the sessions I have posted on this blog, along with a better version of another demo I had already posted. Let’s review the details.
The “Superstar Car Wash” demos I am adding today to the Temple Of Goo archive are the following:
- Dancing In Your Blood (Instrumental Version #1)
- Dancing In Your Blood (Instrumental Version #2)
- String Of Lies (Instrumental, Better Version)
As far as the first two songs are concerned, I had only posted a sung version of “Dancing In Your Blood” (which later in the process became “So Far Away“) here. The third tune, “String Of Lies“, is the same instrumental take which appears here, however it comes with way better audio quality, hence I opted to include it in this special release.
I decided to name this release “Dancing In Your Blood (The Superstar Car Wash Lost Demos)” because it is what it claims to be: a small collection of two songs which appeared in one of the many leaked sessions, but were lost to the ether. On top of that, why not add to it a more polished version of another previously released demo take?
Where do the instrumental versions of “Dancing In Your Blood” come from? Like I said, certainly from one of the leaked demo sessions. Which one, I don’t know, and I obviously don’t know what other songs were included in it. I know there were at least five different sessions, but possibly more had been unleashed in the wild.
I hope you will appreciate this small release, another little piece of the “Superstar Car Wash” puzzle which is finally approaching its total completion.
You can listen to the songs below. Download links are available at the end of this post.
PLEASE NOTICE: It is likely you will be hearing some clicking noises as you listen to the tunes. This is most likely because the conversion process from analog to digital was not properly performed. The encoding process was lacking as well, because whoever worked on these files encoded them using the WMA audio format, which is not very good. I was not the one who took care of the process, I merely share what I have.
