In one of the many TV and Radio appearances the band did back in 1998, just shy of their worldwide success spawned by the single “Iris“, they participated to a very special episode of the Howard Stern Show which aired on September 23rd, 1998.
This is a peculiar video, because of its uniqueness. We find the Goo Goo Dolls chatting with, and performing for, a Gay community which was hosted by the famous Radio personality Howard Stern. They play “Name” and “Iris” (unfortunately, for the latter only a snippet of the performance is streamed) and have plenty of fun making jokes both backstage and onstage with the members of the LGBT movement.
Lots of half-naked bodies, dancing around, humor, and a relaxed atmosphere render this episode a pretty cool one, on top of showing a reinvigorated band which, almost out of nowhere, managed to conquer the music charts of the entire planet in the span of a few weeks.
The video is clearly the result of a VHS rip, which in my opinion was badly done. We get to experience some audio issues throughout the entire thing (clicking noises, sync errors), and video resolution is a mere 384p (whereby the standard should be 480p). Nevertheless, I believe it’s overall pretty rare stuff so let’s enjoy it for it is.
