About the recording process for “Dizzy Up The Girl”

Today I received an email from Javier, a newly officially-recognized contributor of the Temple Of Goo. He sent our way a few links which detail the recording process behind the most famous Goo Goo Dolls release.

Javier sent a pretty detailed explanation in his message. I will post it below, and not add much to it besides mentioning that I actually never heard about this. I believed the album was recorded in a single recording session (usually, they last 2/3 months before recordings are mixed and mastered, usually in a different studio).

Thanks Javier for this interesting piece of Goo history.

The Dizzy Up The Girl recordings were recorded on two different recording days!!!

According to an email sent on these old Goo Goo Dolls fan websites, the album Dizzy Up The Girl began to be recorded from the end of January 1998 and also from March 30 of that year. That is to say, that the material that we have listened to was recorded during the period from the end of January to the beginning of February in Los Angeles and from April to July, during the period in which they did not tour (Of course), that is to say that when they played at Letterman in July 1998, they would have finished the mixing and mastering process for said album.

The dilemma was knowing… when did they record Iris?
But… that’s not a problem either, according to another email from these former fans of the band, already on January 21, 1998, the band’s participation in the City Of Angels soundtrack and the name of the song had been confirmed. it was already defined as such.
I send the emails with the information obtained, greetings and Long Live Goo Goo Dolls

Javier
