The First “Name”

This is a quick post about a YouTube video forwarded to me by contributor Bailey, originally uploaded by someone who was very close to the band.

The first time the hit single “Name” was performed on TV was in 1995 on a show called Sound FX, aired by the FX Network. You can watch the performance below.

It’s an interesting clip, which also features a brief interview with the band members. I highly recommend you check it out.

What’s interesting about the video, besides the event itself, is actually who uploaded it: none other than Armand John Petri, the professional who produced the second and third Goo Goo Dolls albums, and also worked on the pre-production for the fourth one before MacKillop took over. Petri was also John’s best man at the singer’s first wedding back in 1993. Click here to visit his YouTube channel.

I contacted Petri months ago, hoping for an interview to publish here on this blog, but unfortunately he never replied. He is a very important piece of the puzzle which comprised the band’s history, and his efforts have undoubtedly helped the band reach worldwide success.

I’m sure you will enjoy the aforementioned video, the precursor of a series of events which took the Goo Goo Dolls quite high on the music charts for a long time.
