Today, we share an historical document released by Warner Bros., the label the band was under back in 1995, when “A Boy Named Goo” was issued.
The pictures posted below have been forwarded by contributor Bailey. Thanks again for this precious and rare material.
In terms of the press release itself, we get a two-page write-up which mainly focuses on the production stages for the album. As far as the promo picture that came with it, we’ve already seen it but we publish it nonetheless for transparency.
Notice how there is no mention of George or Mike. This was probably forwarded to radio stations / magazines in the period of time within which they had recently fired Tutuska, and had just hired the new drummer Malinin for touring purposes. Given the fact the promo picture the press kit came with featured the latter, they probably were still not certain whether or not to make him an official member of the band, hence the absence of his name from the press kit. Just a wild speculation of mine.

Im a little surprised Giordano was their 1st choice
In my opinion, the same thing that happened with SSCW also happened with ABNG. They started working with Petri, and then the label forced them to switch to another producer chosen by the latter…
yeah I’m pretty sure that was the story for a long time. That they were set to have Petri produce, then the label sent Giordano. I seem to remember Petri himself saying this. This was the era where Warner seemed to be grooming the band, and especially John, for mass appeal.
But ofc it’s a press release so they (the label) will say what they want.
