Hold Me Up Video Sheet Metal Promo (1991)

The quality improvements from “Jed” to “Hold Me Up” were quite noticeable, and as a result the Goo Goo Dolls began gaining more media attention, especially from the MTV 120 Minutes episodes of the time. Other entities took interest as well, including a series which ran parallel to the programme named Video Sheet Metal.

Today contributor Bailey sent me a YouTube link featuring a 3-minute promo clip the aforementioned series did to promote the release of the band’s third effort, “Hold Me Up”.

This is a rare gem which I will leave it to Bailey commenting on. It’s a peek into the members’ mentalities and worldviews of those times. Originally uploaded by user Lovers of 120 Minutes on MTV.

We get a glimpse of a performance of “Out Of Sight” in 1991–hinting that there may be more to the recording, or perhaps the interview–somewhere. The Goos are talking about how they’re moving from more of a hardcore band to becoming more alternative (in a sense, maturing). At the beginning we see part of the clip of the live performance, and John’s goofing off, and then it changes to the interview and the first thing Robby says is “We’re the most boring band you’ll ever meet”. I think that’s my favorite part. We get some nice words from both John and Robby, but I don’t recall George saying anything the whole time.

Thanks again Bailey for the amazing content.
