Today, contributor Bailey shared a YouTube link to a somewhat forgotten Goo Goo Dolls song which, for the band, represents an important milestone.
“Take Me Out To The Ball Game” was issued as a Promo-Only CD for radio stations playback in 1996. It was a cover of a very famous and old (firstly recorded in 1908!) tune which, in a way, became some kind of unofficial anthem for the North American baseball.
The Buffalo, NY trio was asked to record their own version for the TV commercial for the 1996 league. There are two reasons why the tune is actually a fundamental one for the band:
- It was the first song they were asked to record for a given commercial
- It was the last song they recorded with longtime friend and producer Armand John Petri, who produced the second and third album, and pre-produced the fourth and fifth ones
Personally, I like it quite a lot, especially the bridge part. Being a very short song (slightly less than one minute), and having not been ever played live, the tune is somewhat not much know by the fan base, especially by the newer fans. Too bad, because it is a riveting one, considering the info presented above.
You can listen to it below. Thanks again Bailey for the input.
