Today we share yet another very cool YouTube links forwarded to us by contributor Bailey. They all take place in the year 1996, and they all come from TV shows of the time.
The first two clips are for the same song, that is “Long Way Down” (First one originally posted by user Rolling Rockvideos, while the second one by What’s for afters?). I will let Bailey do the talking as usual:
I just thought I’d share these three performances with you, since I don’t think you’ve made posts about any of them. Maybe I’m wrong there, but they are really, really neat performances. (I did also download the three of them just in case they get blocked)
The first one was probably their debut performance on the Tonight Show (with Jay Leno) and features the Dolls playing their then most recent single, Long Way Down. Overall, it has pretty good quality for a VHS recording, and is played very nicely. Great performance.
Also, just a side note–for Javier’s sake–John IS playing his green sparkly Fender Strat (he must have a thing for sparkly guitars, because he’s owned quite a few).
The second one is also a performance of Long Way Down, but done on the Late Night Show with David Letterman. It was later in the year I believe, and this time, Johnny’s using his purple sparkly Gibson. Also to note, they required a little assistance from a rhythm guitar player, probably from one of the staff. Also pretty neat quality, and great performance.
The final video is the Dolls playing “Name” On the Rosie O’Donnell show in 1996. I think this is also a great, great performance, the boys are looking really good. Aside from a couple VHS glitches, this is a golden performance, and one of my favorites they did. Also a note on the guitar, Johnny later used this to play Iris, as well as name, maybe even slide or black balloon at one point
The clip for “Name” was originally uploaded by live2cd.
How was that for a little trip down to Memory Lane?
Thanks again Bailey for the material.
