Goo Grief: An Early Goo Goo Dolls Eras Tribute Band

Someone got in touch with us with a little tip: Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for these guys: Goo Grief, a tribute band which focuses on early Goo Goo Dolls material.

The reader who contacted us did not detail any more information about Goo Grief, a band which only covers Goo Goo Dolls songs from the 1987-1993 years, that is tracks from the following albums:

  • Goo Goo Dolls (1987)
  • Jed (1989)
  • Hold Me Up (1990)
  • Superstar Car Wash (1993)

I tried doing some research on them on my own, but to no avail. The only thing I was able to find is the following poster of an upcoming show they will be doing next month in Buffalo, NY.

Besides that, no data in terms of band members, releases (if any), biographies, etc…

Nevertheless, this project seems to me quite interesting and, (here comes my own speculation) also indicative of a recent trend which sees some kind of comeback for old Goo material, in a form or another. To support my hypothesis, I would like to remind the fact that it was just mere days ago that we got the news about the Goo Goo Dolls releasing a 1995 concert show in all available formats (Digital, CD, Vinyl). A surprise which came out of the blue, totally unexpected, and I’m sure that it took by surprise not only myself.

Now, Goo Grief seems to reinforce that “comeback” concept.

I tried searching for information online about this tribute band, but couldn’t find anything else besides the aforementioned poster. If you happen to know more about them, let us know.

If you wish to attend to the concert itself, you can do so by visiting the Facebook Event Page created for it.

Furthermore, if you’re a member of the band itself, Temple Of Goo would be honored to interview whoever is involved with the project, as the latter is certainly aligned with this very own blog’s philosophy.

Until new data, and possibly new content comes out, we wish Goo Grief the best of luck, and cheer for a successful career in the music industry.

  1. You know I think they got that name from that one ad the goo goo dolls released for a show in 1989. I shared that with you not that long ago. John and Robby are depicted screaming just like the picture above, and George is pounding on the drums, and next to him is Charlie Brown saying “Goo grief”
This is really interesting! Maybe this band or whatever will get people interested in early goo again…what wonders that might do for the goos set lists….
