Superstar Car Wash Demo Session #4 (1992)

Today, we add some more amazing content to our digital archive. Specifically, a collection of demos for the Goo Goo Dolls’ fourth album, featuring a total of more than one hour of music. Make sure to read the info presented below, as it contains details about this release, including how it compares to the previous “Superstar Car Wash” demo sessions we’ve already published in our blog.

First and foremost, let’s take a brief look at the past. If you want more information about the “Superstar Car Wash” demo sessions, I encourage you to read this post before continuing.

As you’ve discovered, there are several demo sessions which have surfaced online along the years. Temple Of Goo has been able, so far, to find and share three of them:

It’s time to add a fourth session, which I simply renamed “Demo Session #4”. Before people go crazy over it, let me state a couple of disclaimers. Firstly, I recently gained access to it, hence why it hasn’t been released up until now.

Secondly, most of the songs presented here are already part of the three aforementioned collections. However, I decided to post them nonetheless because some of them sound better than their counterparts we published in the past months.

Furthermore, there are a few songs which haven’t been posted yet on the Temple Of Goo.

Alright, let’s analyze the release we just got in our hands:

  • Overall, the songs here are mostly instrumental takes.
  • We get two instrumental versions of “So Far Away“, which come with a relevant discrepancy in terms of length, that is a difference of about 30 seconds. I reckon one of the hasn’t been published before, hence it is new, unheard content.
  • The instrumental version of “We Are The Normal” is different than the one we previously posted, as it comes with no violins playing in the background. You can consider this new, unheard content as well.
  • The last track, “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know“, is the version featuring only John on vocals, with missing lyrics he replaces with na-na-na’s.
  • Two tracks feature two songs each. I did not separate them in order to maintain the original leak’s status untouched / not doctored.
  • Some of the songs appearing here come with better sound than the ones previously posted.
  • One or two songs come with clicking noises. Most likely, this was a CD rip whereby the CD reader struggled throughout the ripping process, skipping a few milliseconds here and there.

In the end, I would admit this is not a very exciting release, as it only features a couple of new songs representing never-heard-before content. Nevertheless, I consider it a nice addition to our archive, because like I stated above, there are certain tracks here that come with better audio quality.

You can listen to the release below. Download links are provided at the end of this post.

PLEASE NOTICE: You will be downloading a total of 19 songs which have been encoded using the .WMA format. This is how I obtained the files, and I decided not to convert them or doctor them in any way in order to preserve their original status. Keep in mind that such format may not be compatible with all the readers out there.
