The Goo Goo Dolls On Sesame Street (1999)

Today we have a couple of interesting YouTube links forwarded to us by contributor Bailey. This time, the Goo Goo Dolls spoof themselves with the help of a famous TV character.

“Dizzy Up The Girl” certainly put the band on the spotlight, and also offered the chance for some pretty funny situations whereby John et al. had to get out of their comfort zone.

I’m sure most of it already heard of “Pride“, the modified version of hit single “Slide” which was recorded with the help of Elmo. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, I’ll let Bailey do the explaining. In the introduction to her comment, she also expresses her thoughts about the latest live album, which hit the shelves mere days ago.

Today I have a amazing video to share. First though, I’d like to take a short while to discuss the new live album, released just yesterday! I haven’t gotten the chance to listen to the CDs, which I also bought, but I did listen to the full thing on Spotify. I’d say my favorite song from the soundcheck was either Girl Right Next To Me or Two Days In February. For those who don’t know, I’m a little obsessed with “Two Days”, so I was overjoyed to find out they played it twice during the show!

Overall, I’m very pleased with the setlist and the overall performance, although I’m surprised they didn’t play songs like “Livin’ In A Hut” “Hey” and “Different Light” which they usually played during that tour. If any of the Goos ever get to read this, thank you for releasing this! Quite a spectacular performance, and worth the money I spent on it!

Just a couple side notes, on “Fallin’ Down”, they titled it “Fallin’ Down Again”, which seems strange. I get the feeling it wasn’t John and Robby actually making that track listing. Also, during the soundcheck, John mentions something about how he’d “stood in front of people with his pants around his ankles and never felt so embarrassed”. Heh I kind of wonder what he’d been doing during the show right then. For some reason what he said kind of made me think of the wild punk days at the Continental.

I kind of want to leave the rest of the show up for discussion later, so I’ll get to my rare goo of the day.

The other day I found a pretty rare gem someone posted quite a long time ago on YouTube. I watched it a couple years ago, then completely forgot about it! I’m not sure why, because it’s actually quite funny.

Let me do a little bit of explaining here: So, the first video features the Goo Goo Dolls on Sesame Street, and John and Elmo sing a parody to the song “Slide” called “Pride”. It’s pretty funny, actually, because throughout the whole thing you can see John trying really hard not to laugh. I’m genuinely surprised he didn’t start laughing while he was singing! I honestly think the second video is funnier though. It’s a behind the scenes video of their performance, and also features a short interview at the end, where John and Robby explain how Sesame street influenced them during childhood. I don’t remember hearing Mike talk at all, but I could be wrong. We also get a short interview with Elmo :). Overall, two golden videos. Oh, I did almost forget to mention, but this took place in 1999.

Anyway, that’s all I have for now!

Stay gooey
