Videopimped Goo Goo Dolls

A recent exchange of emails with contributor Bailey led to a bit of a dive into the past. The Goo Goo Dolls were among the bands being Videopimped.

Back in the day, during the IRC era, Videopimp was a pretty big deal. What’s that?, you may ask.

Videopimp was a group of TV rippers who recorded music videos, TV appearances, and live concerts from numerous bands, and then shared those videos through their highly-visited IRC channel. I remember interacting with their service occasionally, and for those like me who used to utilize IRC before it became obsolete and taken over by the likes of Discord, it was a trove of amazing stuff, oftentimes encoded with a high level of care.

The Goo Goo Dolls were also Videopimped quite a few times. I remember most of their music videos were ripped, but also some TV performances and a few concerts too.

OK, now I know you are asking the burning question. Where can we get Goo Goo Dolls Videopimp stuff????

Well, unfortunately you can’t anymore. Videopimp’s website is still online, albeit abandoned. It looks like in 2021 they uploaded their entire catalog (including Goo Goo Dolls material) to an hosting service called Zippyshare. Problem is, Zippyshare went under mere months later. When that happens, anything that has been uploaded to their servers goes poof in a matter of seconds. I invite you all to browse their website and take a look at how much stuff they have ripped along the years. It’s sad that it’s all gone.

Yummy… But goner. I am no website creation/maintenance expert, but let me tell you this: When you are uploading something to your website, do not post stuff only on one hosting service. If the latter gets taken down, it’s all gone for good. That is why I always create a Main Source when uploading material, plus two Mirrors. If one of them is gone, there are backups in place.

But not all hope is lost! Bailey pointed out that a user on YouTube, goozemell, has uploaded some of those Goo Goo Dolls Videopimp releases, including a cool 2002 concert in Albany, NY.

Maybe one day all of those Videopimp releases will surface back online. Only time will tell. For now, the life lesson is clear:
