Clips from the Goo Grief concert which took place on October 27th, 2023

A few weeks ago we talked about Goo Grief, a band from Buffalo, NY which focuses on covering early Goo Goo Dolls songs only from the 1987-1993 years. Today, we share some clips from their first official show, which took place on October 27th, 2023.

First and foremost, I invite you all to read this blog post, which explains what Goo Grief is all about. At the time I am writing this, we still have very scarce information about the band itself. However, there is some material we can add to our archive in relation to it, thanks to the video clips and insights provided by our reader Laura Kanalley.

Laura sent us three videos and two pictures taken at the aforementioned show. Let’s hear it directly from her:

Urban Achievers was the opening act and they did about 10-12 “classic punk rock” songs that were from 1987-1993. I’m not familiar with this music but I thought they sounded good. One of the last songs they gave a shoutout to their friend “who wished we were playing the Goo Goo Dolls stuff, so this one’s for you” – they played Burnin’ Up.

Goo Grief went on next. They played twelve songs (see list in file). I thought they sounded great. On one of the first Robby songs I felt like he nailed the whine Robby has. I talked to a couple of the guys after and they said it was the first time they had done the “Goo Grief” and only practiced 2-3 times before Friday night. All four guys play in other bands and have day jobs as well.

I hope this is good info for you both. I wish I could’ve recorded more but my phone battery doesn’t keep a charge very well and I was already running low.

Below is the track listing, along with a picture of the band:

And here is a collection of three clips organized into one single video for your listening pleasure. The first clip is Urban Achievers playing “Burnin’ Up“, the other two are Goo Grief playing “No Way Out” and “Fallin’ Down“.

Many thanks Laura for the footage. Let’s see how the Goo Grief project evolves within the next months/years.
