Live At The Axis, Boston, MA (August 16th, 1991)

One of my recent acquisitions was a bootleg featuring two concerts the band played at the same location during the same year, but on different dates. We already posted the March one, now it’s time for the August release.

For those who haven’t been following our latest blog posts, you really want to check the March one, as it features important revelations about the Goo Goo Dolls’ fourth album “Superstar Car Wash”.

John et al. returned to the Boston venue for another show mere weeks later, as part of their “Hold Me Up” tour. Here is the setlist.fm entry for it, which at the time I’m writing this is empty.

The band boosts a total of 21 songs, including a cover for “Hey You” originally written by Bachman-Turner Overdrive, a tune they had actually covered in the past quite a few times.

Despite its audio quality, which I consider to be low-to-medium, this release is quite special because it also includes a live take for the very beautiful instrumental “Kevin’s Song“, a song that appears on their third full length. Personally, this is the first time I have listened to its live counterpart. According to setlist.fm, the song was only played a few times in 1995. Obviously, today’s post begs to differ.

All in all, this is your typical “Hold Me Up” concert with a lot of energy and the occasional joke here and there. I’m sure you’ll like it, despite the not-so-excellent audio quality it comes with.

You can listen to the concert below. Download links are available at the end of this post.
