Today we share the latest info coming from contributor Bailey, who is on the lookout for a special 1996 concert supposedly filmed by MTV.
It’s time for another treasure hunt, in the form of rare bootlegs to find. Bailey sent us the following message:
So the other day, I found an interview from a Buffalo news station done with Robby in 2016 I believe. They talked about various topics, including their first tv appearance (Robby thought it was hilarious!). Then this little clip shows up, and the newscaster explains that the Dolls stopped during their A Boy Named Goo tour in 1996 to play a free show at Cradle Beach Camp in New York. I found a website on it too, because I was curious if it was still open. https://cradlebeach.org/ Yes it is.
In the video clip, they’re playing Name for the kids there, and afterwards we get a quick clip of the three Dolls doing an interview with the news station. I posted the clip on my own channel in the hopes that someone might have the full thing.
That’s it. That’s all I have!
John’s holding an adorable little girl while they were doing the interview, and that sparked an entire conversation in the comments. One person commented on hearing Johnny say during an interview (in the early days) that he wanted to have half a dozen children! Seems like something he’d say…Someone else did say that there was a full interview somewhere out there, but I haven’t been able to find it yet. Also, in the full interview: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nZJv75ixqXs&t=0s — there’s a clip of live At Shea’s (which temple of goo did make a post on a while back) 1999. The same person said that MTV filmed the entire show, plus film of a birthday party for John backstage, where all his family and Laurie were with him…but…despairingly, it never got released to the public. I’ve kind of debated finding MTVs website and trying to contact them about this, but I just think it would be pointless.
Maybe by me doing this, someone may have the full thing….maybe.
I will add Bailey’s request to our Bootleg Watch page.
Furthermore, she also forwarded a very rare picture taken in 1996, as the Goo Goo Dolls toured Japan for the first time.
One last thing I’d like to add: I have a 1996 picture of the Goo Goos playing in Japan…which MAY have gone with a bootleg contributor Sean shared a long time ago: Naked Dolls in the city. Just a guess. It’s quite the cool picture too, showing the whole stage and a backstage view of the Dolls playing.
Anyway, that’s all I have for today, so stay gooey!

Thanks Bailey for the insights, as always!
