Iris (Original Stems, 1998)

After “Name“, at last another Goo Goo Dolls hit is finally dissected down to its bones.

Firstly, let us refresh our memory with the difference between Original Stems (or Instrumentals) and their AI-Generated counterparts by reading this post.

In today’s release it is obvious we are dealing with the original stems, coming straight from the album master. “Iris” represents the band’s most successful song, and it was a shame we had to wait more than twenty years before getting our hands on all of its stripped-down components. Better late than never, I guess.

Its stems come in five different forms. Let’s analyze them:

  • Backing features some acoustic guitars, tambourines, violins, and the whole orchestra playing.
  • Bass is self-explanatory.
  • Drums is self-explanatory as well.
  • Guitars features all the different guitars in the whole song. I reckon there are at least three in here, maybe more.
  • Vocals is the a cappella version of the song, just John singing.

And that’s basically it. I hope you will enjoy these. I certainly had fun listening to the several constituents of the song, discovering every bit of never-heard-before sounds which were covered by another instrument in the album track. This time, nothing is hidden anymore.

You can listen to the stems below.
