Another amazing release from new contributor Christina is shared today through our blog. This time, all of the “Dizzy Up The Girl” era aficionados will be pleased to listen to this show, which includes a very special version of one of the band’s most intimate ballads.
On November 6th, 1998 the Goo Goo Dolls performed at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, PA (which had been renamed to Franklin Music Hall years after the event). To me, this seems like a concert to mainly promote the then-newest release, given the fact most of the songs being performed here come from the latter.
Christina has a few thoughts about it as well:
Not the greatest quality recording, with lots of loud audience conversation throughout, but a full gig is a full gig. (Again I had to do some minimal audio editing here, “Dizzy” had an odd skip at the start, but the rest is presented as-is.)
I will add that the show itself boots a very cool track listing, which is concluded with a live take for “Two Days In February” that John executes with an electric guitar rather than the usual acoustic one. As a result, we get a pretty cool guitar solo bridge worth checking out. To my knowledge, this is the first time I’ve heard him deviate from his regular performance in relation to the aforementioned tune. In total, the whole show’s running time is almost 75 minutes.
Quality-wise, like Christina mentioned, we are not getting soundboard quality but overall the bootleg is quite listenable.
I don’t have anything else to add, besides mentioning the fact that I really like these 1998 shows, and I wish I could get more in my hands. This one is certainly a nice addition to the blog.
