Live At The London Astoria, London, UK (2002)

The next release in queue forwarded to us by contributor Christina is a 2002 concert which took place in the Queen of England’s hometown.

On May 3rd, 2002 the Goo Goo Dolls were deep into their European tour for the then-newest new album, “Gutterflower”, and played at the famous London Astoria venue in London, UK. That was actually their second last show in the Old Continent before returning to the States later that month.

As far as this event is concerned, Christina has a few thoughts of her own:

Somebody else has posted this gig audio on YouTube, but I thought I’d share my mp3s anyway in case the quality is any better. The energy at this show is off the charts so it’s a fun listen. Some goofy moments (the band tries to do a Q&A mid-show and it does not go well.) A Goo concert in London sounds like a good time, lol.

I concur with her interpretation of the show, and will only add that in terms of track listing we are looking at a pretty meaty release (twenty songs for a total running time of about 75 minutes). As a side note, I tried looking up the audio version Christina said had already been uploaded on YouTube, but I couldn’t locate it.

In terms of quality, I’d say OK-ish with some parts which do not sound very good due to the recording not being a soundboard one. Overall, I think it’s listenable but sometimes I had some issues clearly distinguishing the instruments being played, as they were covered by screams and noises coming from the crowd.

Another observation I will add is that the files in here are .MP3’s encoded at 160kbps, a bit lower the (old) standard which is 192kbps. Nonetheless, this is indeed an amazing show which is worth listening to and archiving in our ever-growing Goo Goo Dolls vault.
