Gutterflower Promo Interview (2002)

The next release from contributor Christina is a 2002 promo interview the Goo Goo Dolls did to promote their then-newest album “Gutterflower”.

Today’s content is actually pretty interesting because we get to see (well, hear…) the band do something they very rarely do, that is provide information regarding what motivated or inspired them to write a given song. In this case, they do so with each and every tune included in “Gutterflower”. Let’s hear it directly from Christina, who also provides some more details about it:

This is a victim of poor file naming on my part, but the host introduces himself as Max Tolkoff. He has a very storied career in the radio industry so I’m not sure which program this would’ve been from, but it’s a good interview with lots of little trivia bits throughout – the host really steps back and just lets the band talk. They play snippets of each song from Gutterflower and the band gives origins for each, as well as some background on the album as a whole.

I wish they did something like that for each and every album they put out so far.

As a side note, the download is comprised of a single .MP3 file encoded at 128kbps. While the standard is now 320kbps, pay no mind at all to it since it is an audio interview hence high-quality rips are really not that necessary.

I know there are a lot of “Gutterflower” era fans out there who have been asking for more material about those years to be shared in our blog. I’m sure this addition to our database will please you. The band talks extensively for roughly 45 minutes about anything correlated to the aforementioned album.

Below you can find the original press release for it, released by Warner Bros:
