Live At Oxygen TV “Trackers” (Slide / Broadway, Plus Q&A) [2000]

The next release from contributor Christina is a very rare 2000 TV appearance the Goo Goo Dolls did for Oxygen. Meaty content, featuring two live takes and a Q&A session with John et al.

Today’s video is a dive back in time when “Dizzy Up The Girl” was all the rage. The Goo Goo Dolls were one of the first mainstream bands that had the privilege to be guests at Oxygen, a TV channel which had launched that very same year and has become extremely popular since then.

These type of contents are quite cool because not only we get the chance to enjoy live takes of given songs, but also we can listen to the band members express their thoughts on several topics which are not necessarily related to the music industry. In this case the conversation is very interesting and I will not spoil it for you. Let’s just say John, Robby, and Mike open up quite a bit about several things, including personal matters.

Christina has some thought to share as well about the video:

This was a teen-oriented programming block on the Oxygen TV channel. The host, SuChin Pak, went on to be one of MTV’s news anchors a few years later.

• Features performances of “Slide” and “Broadway,” plus an interview/audience Q&A.
• Sadly the audio & video quality on this one is quite poor. Audio on “Slide” is especially muffled, it does get somewhat better for “Broadway” and the interview.
• Some of the interview questions are a bit unique, including talking about pet peeves, their worst jobs, and why Mike is so quiet.

In terms of the video file itself, this is a VHS rip encoded with the standardized format for such medium (640x480p). A few seconds off of “Slide” have been taken out. Most likely whoever recorded this pushed the Rec button a bit too late. Quality-wise, like Christina said, there are some audio issues and video is somewhat acceptable, though I noticed some annoying flickering here and there.

Nevertheless, this is pretty rare content which I personally have never seen before, not even on YouTube. I’m sure our readers will love it a lot, despite its flaws.

Many thanks Christina for yet another amazing release!
