Robby Takac On VH1’s “The List” (2000)

Here we go with another release from our amazing contributor Christina. This time, bassist and vocalist Robby Takac takes the stage.

VH1 had many TV shows as part of their vast production cycle. One of them was The List, which only ran for one season and it was your typical format where celebrities would discuss about their art, and sometimes about anything else which related to it. We’re used to John being the band’s representative who most of the times gets to appear and talk to the audience, however in this occasion Robby Takac was amongst the guests, making this video quite interesting and rare indeed.

Christina has a few thought about it. Let’s hear it from her:

Featuring k.d. lang, Robby Takac, Greg Grunberg, Bruce Dickinson, and Alexandra Wentworth

• This was a talk show where celebrity guests would come on to do a roundtable discussion listing their favorites on a music or pop culture topic; their picks would then be narrowed down to a Top 3 by audience vote. This episode focuses on the best albums of the ‘90s. Robby’s choices are great if I say so myself (“Pretty Hate Machine,” “The Bends,” and “Nevermind.”)
• Since Robby appears throughout I’ve left this show intact, minus the musical performance which is missing from my copy.
• Purely from a pop culture perspective — I found it interesting how solid of a list they came up without the benefit of hindsight, which one of the guests even mentions early in the episode. Most of these picks held up really well 20+ years later.
I remember seeing John on this show too… a youtube search of “John Rzeznik The List” brings up a few portions of episodes that he hosted.

In terms of quality, this is a VHS rip created with the 640×480 standard encoding process. Picture and audio both quite clear, despite the medium being very outdated when compared to today’s standards.

I don’t have much to add besides what Christina has already shared. I’ll leave it to you to enjoy listening to Robby as he expresses his thoughts on the matters at hand. I will only provide a bit of a clue here, and say that if you liked “The List”, there is a nice surprise coming here at the Temple quite soon.
