Today’s release is about something quite dangerous that happened to the band during their “Dizzy Up The Girl” tour back in 1999.
Our amazing contributor Christina has shared with the Temple plenty of different types of material, including a number of “shorts”, that is small clips wherein the Goo Goo Dolls make an appearance, sometimes even only for just a few seconds. I could have merged all of those shorts into a single, big file, but I decided not to do so in order to maximize the number of releases we can put out (*malign laughter*).
The first short we publish today is about the airplane incident the band underwent during their 1999 tour. First and foremost, let’s hear it directly from Christina:
Short news clip about the GGDs’ plane crash in Sicily. (You could tell someone was proud of writing that pun at the end.) This comes from WB 17 which I believe is WPHL-TV in Philadelphia.
If memory serves well, John et al. were flying to Sicily, Italy, to perform at an US Military Base over there. After the crash, despite getting out of the plane without any substantial injuries, the incident led John to a series of psychological problems involving flying. I remember that he said he became afraid of getting on planes, though his job was basically forcing him to do so. In order to conquer his newfound phobia, he underwent psychological treatment, part of the latter even included skydiving sessions with experts by his side. In the end, it is pretty clear he was able to overcome his issues with flying, and to my knowledge he has never had any other problems with the matter.
The clip is a VHS rip which briefly talks about the event and features John expressing his thoughts on the situation. Format is your typical 640x480p encoding, which is the standard option for that medium. Overall quality is pretty good, in my opinion.

John discussed the skydiving on a podcast not too long ago. About Last Night, I think it was. He said his ex gf Adrienne (he didn’t name her but obvious) had taken video of him and he wished he could get ahold of it now but …. lol yeah that’s not happening. Imagine the balls it took to do that.
Also remember him saying he was too shaken up to fly out to NYC for the MTV NY’s Eve show which was scheduled just a few weeks after the crash. So he had to have someone (pretty sure he said his ex wife) drive him out.
