A few months ago we posted the audio version for a 1999 concert the Goo Goo Dolls performed during the “Dizzy Up The Girl” tour. Today, we share its visual counterpart.
The next release from Contributor Christina is a very cool show which took place during one of the busiest years for the band. I linked above the audio version of it, which the Temple has already offered to its readers some time ago, and now we can enjoy the very same event from a different perspective, that is the one including both sounds and visuals. First and foremost, let’s see what Christina has to say about it:
This was from the second of two opening gigs for the Rolling Stones at the Hartford Civic Center, now called the XL Center. You’ve covered most of the background on this one already, but it’s great to see it on video. A local radio station shared a look back at the Stones gigs here, and according to setlist.fm the GGDs played the same set both nights at this venue.
Unfortunately my tape has a couple flaws, with brief audio dropouts on “Black Balloon” and “Iris,” so I’m glad an audio version is available. There is more audience chatter than usual since this was an opener set. The band sounds great though and John’s vocals are really strong here.
As far as video quality, it’s about what you could expect for a late ‘90s camcorder — the picture is overexposed and soft throughout, and has many of the trademarks of an audience recording, but considering the technology of the time (and that this copy went through multiple VHS transfers) it’s honestly not terrible. The person filming seemed to be pretty far back in the stadium so I’m surprised it’s as watchable as it is. I appreciate their efforts!

I don’t have much to add, besides mentioning that this is obviously a VHS rip encoded with the standardized 640x480p format.
