Never-Before-Seen Goo Goo Dolls Pictures! (1990/1993)

Today we share a batch of extremely rare pictures taken in 1990 and 1993, forwarded to us by contributor Bailey. Before you dive into these images, make sure to read the backstory they come with.

First and foremost… Do you remember Ryan Sanders? Let me refresh your memory.

Ryan is a big Goo Goo Dolls fan and he recently got in touch with Bailey. Let’s hear it directly from the latter:

Goo Morning (or whatever time it is for you)!

Today I have some stunningly rare pictures to share. These are so even the most basic Goo fan would adore them! And you’re gonna love ‘em. Yesterday I got an email from a fan named Ryan who is the lead singer/guitarist of a band called “Figure 8” who actually recorded a song with Mike Malinin on drums!

Anyway, a little backstory for the hardcore fans, Ryan told me he was friends with the guy who lent Goo Goo Dolls his amp during the recording of Hold me Up and SSCW: Chuck Root. In the Hold Me Up credits, they thank him for the amp, cigarettes and “just putting up with us” and hilariously, his name was typed up as “Chuck Roooooot”! Actually! They must’ve been good friends with him. But Ryan told me he had pictures of the old amp Johnny had before their gear had been stolen after their 1988 tour. So…as it goes, there was a picture of the old amp:

I’m not good with this kind of thing, but it’s obviously a Marshall (which they still use to this day!). Besides that super old picture, we get 3 from the recording of Two Days in February out on the side of the street by Trackmaster Studios.

In this one, you see the man with his snake (Robby commented before saying he’d had an 8 foot snake the whole recording!), and the man leaning over John is Armand John Petri! And of course Johnny and his guitar. The woman on the side I’m making guesses about, but I’ll take a guess and say it’s Robby’s mother. Could be wrong. Any ideas?

These two are incredible and have such a magic aesthetic! The first one is of John during the recording, and is focused on his face alone. The other one is a funny shot between takes, where you see John smiling, holding his guitar.

These next ones are sort of random and I’m still making lots of guesses. This one I know you’ll like, because it’s from 1993! Super rare and I’ve never seen it! Don’t know who the other people are, but John’s front and center with his finger stuck in a beer bottle. That made me laugh when I saw it! If you notice, he’s also wearing a shirt with the Charlie Brown illustration of the band.

These other two are sort of confusing. I’m going to say these are both from 1990. One features George (and Robby’s shoulder in the corner) talking to some pals on the Goo amp. The other one is of Robby walking back from somewhere, by the Goo amp.

Those are all the pictures but they have never been seen before!! Take the time to thank Ryan for sharing these! These are an amazing addition to the Temple’s collection.

Cheers,
Bailey

Needless to say I’ve never seen these pictures before. In my opinion, these are so rare that it’s even possible they made their appearance online for the first time ever here, today.

While we enjoy them, let’s thank both Bailey and Ryan for taking the time to share these hidden gems with us all!
