Goo Goo Dolls Appearance At The Tonight Show With Jay Leno (Ross The Intern Skit, 2002)

Another release from contributor Christina is a collection of funny sketches the Goo Goo Dolls took part to in a 2002 edition of “The Intern Skit”, featuring Ross Mathews as a correspondent for The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

In today’s video we take a look at the most relaxed, laid-back side of the band’s members thanks to a series of short sketches they shot for one of the many episodes of the aforementioned worldwide famous TV program. In a nutshell, it is all about intern Ross following the band as they are on tour, as he messes around with John et al. Christina has a few thoughts about it:

This is pretty easily available on YouTube but my copy is a little higher quality. I’d be surprised if your readers haven’t seen this already, but it’s burned into my memory and I’ve been quoting it for 20 years. Remember: Cool. Professionalism.

Thanks to YouTube user judithb1993 who originally uploaded the clip almost 15 years ago.

In my opinion, these clips add to the bands’ characters and offer a deeper insight into their real personalities. In many occasions, famous rockstars hide their true selves behind the persona their art (and marketing) creates, and these videos kind of remove those masks, unveiling their true identities.

Like Christina says, I find her version to look better than the one posted more than a decade ago, so it makes for a nice addition to our ever-growing archive.

In terms of the file itself, this is obviously a VHS rip coming with the standardized 640x480p encoding format. Quality-wise, I’d say pretty good overall considering how old the medium is.
