John Rzeznik On MTV’s “Choose Or Lose” (2000)

Let’s get political again with contributor Christina‘s latest release.

As far as I know, the band never liked discussing politics too much. My understanding is that “Flat Top” was the only song whereby specific claims were made in terms of politicians and how the USA was run during the early 90’s.

A while ago we published another TV show where lead singer and guitarist John Rzeznik expressed his views on the matter. Today, we can watch him again speak his mind about it as a guest on another program, this time run by MTV, titled “Choose Or Lose“, which ran in 2000. Christina has more info about it:

Choose or Lose was MTV’s initiative to build political awareness and drive youth voter turnout in the US. As part of this initiative they aired TV specials throughout the ‘90s and ‘00s; these are two that John Rzeznik appeared on.

In the first clip, John tours the US Capitol with then-senator Ted Kennedy, and shows us some of the daily life of a legislator. (Already uploaded here)

The second clip is a roundtable discussion from a followup show, “Choose or Lose 2000: Unwrapped.” This was filmed during the recount period of the 2000 election, in which it was unclear which nominee would win Florida and become president. John only talks a handful of times, but I’ve included the whole recording that I have.

When it comes to politics I rarely join the discussion, so I’ll just leave it at that and conclude this post by merely mentioning that the video is obviously a VHS rip encoded with the standardized 640x480p format. Quality is pretty OK-ish but sometimes a bit lacking.

Again, this is another chance for the fans to gain access to the band member’s minds in relation to topics which are not strictly connected to their craft. If you’re curious to know more about John’s worldviews in terms of politics and how delegates should be running a Nation, this is the perfect clip for you.
