Class Dismissed (Live, 2002)

After contributor Christina‘s latest, a 2002 concert, contributor Ryne forwards another show from the same year, which aired on TV.

We all know 2002 was a very busy year for the band, both on the stage and the TV appearances fronts. Today’s release is actually about the latter. Ryne has more info to share:

Alright Fellas, A sort of a rarity for you: ‘Class Dismissed’.

It seems like there was a time where, I guess, People could enter some sort of contest to win a Goo Goo Dolls show? Or am I maybe misunderstanding the whole contest idea?

Anyway, This is apparently Dated April 26, 2002. I had to look that up as there doesn’t seem to be any setlist info on it. The GGDs played at a School as part of a special Contest.

The video I’m bringing you guys was likely not the whole show, Unfortunately. What you will see is a splicing of only 7 clips (nearly 15 years old) that appear to be in existence, With evidence that there were more songs played than you are getting. I’ve tried making it look as lined up as possible, But obviously only with varying success. If there is a ‘Full Version’ of this show, I am unable to locate it myself.

Otherwise, Of the 7 songs you’re getting, Most were performed by John. Featuring:

Big Machine
Dizzy
Slide
Iris
Tucked Away
Here Is Gone
What A Scene

Quality Wise: Except for times where it may appear obvious that i spliced single clips together to make one, I think for Audio and Video its otherwise alright.

Sorry i couldn’t have provided a complete show this time around, But figured I’d provide something that still seems a bit on the rare side. Even if we have to give it an ‘incomplete’ label.

I’m not sure whether or not this is the full show or just a portion of it. I did some research online and could only find that YouTube user goozemell has posted another version for it with the same number of tracks, whereby each song was cut into its own clip. I could also locate the official press release for it, released by MuchMusic, the program it aired on, and produced by AMC. No mention on how many songs were supposed to be played, though. Ryne’s version features the whole event as a single video. I didn’t notice any significant differences between the two.

The performance is just seven songs, all coming from the then-last two albums. There are also very short interviews with the band in-between takes.

In terms of the video itself, this is a VHS rip coming with the standardized 640x480p encoding format. Both audio and video quality are pretty decent, although you will encounter some pixelation and distortion as far as the latter is concerned.
