Broadway (On Charmed, 2000)

Contributor Christina reminds us that the success of “Dizzy Up The Girl” caught the attention of a lot of people in the music business, but professionals in adjacent lines of work also were impressed, such as the director of one of the “Charmed” episodes.

In the year 2000 John et al. made a brief appearance on the TV show “Charmed”, as the band is seen performing a live take for “Broadway“. Christina has a few more details about it:

(I was a little iffy on sharing this one since it is most likely commercially available on DVD – up to you if you want to post it. This Youtube version is better quality).

The Goos made a cameo appearance to promote “Broadway” on the fantasy drama show Charmed, mostly serving as background while the characters have some emotional dialogue. I never watched the series so I can’t give much context, but it’s interesting to see the band in something that isn’t a late-night talk show setting.

I remember back when the band’s sixth album was all the rage, so say late 1999/early 2000, there was a lot of talk on Goo Goo Dolls forums about John having been offered a couple of roles as an actor for some productions. Nothing ever came out of those rumors, but I wonder whether or not this short TV appearance was some kind of trial performance to assess if he had the necessary skills to take on a longer, more important acting role. He makes a couple of statuary poses here and there, but nothing too different from the music videos of that era he was part of.

Anyhow, this is certainly a cool cameo and we gladly add it to our archive.

The video itself is obviously a VHS rip, coming with the standardized 640x480p encoding format. Quality-wise, not bad at all, besides the occasional distortion which takes place from time to time.
