Contributor Bailey shares with us a brief reminder of what the next Summer will look like (in Goo terms).
A few days ago the Goo Goo Dolls announced their 2025 tour, which will kick off in the Summer in tandem with Dashboard Confessional. I was a bit surprised when I saw the news. Being an Emo Rock listener myself, I found it strange that John et al. would travel the US (and possibly Europe?) for several weeks alongside one of the most popular representative of that Rock sub-genre, given the fact the Buffalo, NY act comes from very different music backgrounds (but, truth to be told, shares a common ancestor with the Emo movement: Punk).
Was it convenience? Agreements between labels / managers? Or was it something else? Is the band maybe signalling a change in style or sound, just like they did with “Chaos In Bloom”? Time will tell.
Anyhow, let’s see what Bailey has to say about the matter:
Hi!
It’s been about a week since they announced their tour, but I think it’s definitely still worth mentioning! Now I know this is an American tour, BUT Robby mentioned something about doing a world tour (perhaps Europe?) sometime in the near future so, for all you European fans (including you Temple of Goo) you should keep your eyes peeled!
Here’s the tour schedule:

(And yes! I’m going to see them in Sugarland! Got super good seats for pretty cheap!)
Here’s their advertising video, a little corny but you get a sneak peak on their opening act who I don’t know at all: Dashboard Confessional? Maybe others do.
Super excited for this!
Enjoy your weekend!

In reference to a new season opening up for the Dolls, I want to reiterate the fact that John has mentioned at least a couple of times during the past months that the band intends to issue a new release before going out touring. If anything goes well, I am confident we will see an announcement in the coming weeks. Nobody knows yet if the Goo Goo Dolls are working on a new album, or EP. What we know so far is that they have released three singles after “Chaos In Bloom” without mentioning whether or not they plan to include them in a future release. This is a practice that, to my knowledge, they’ve never done before.
I did kind of forget to mention the new music! So I’m like 95% sure it’s an album they’re going to release sometime next year. I think it’s going to be after their tour in Australia in February because they mentioned not wanting to play new songs before the album was released. They also both (Johnny and Robby) commented on how awesome the new album was going to be so I’m crossing my fingers that those songs are GREAT! It’s been almost 3 years since Chaos and it’s about due time for some more music 🎶!
Dashboard Confessional surprised me too. But then, Blue October and Beach Slang also surprised me. I guess I’m used to their Train and Matchbox 20 match ups. Those 2 represent imo modern Goo’s worst tendencies. Bland, adult pop.
Beach Slang shocked me but I do remember John saying he watched them from side stage and they so reminded him, in spirit, of the old days in Buffalo it brought him to tears. And yeah sure enough the next release we got was CIB, which while not a complete turnaround was surely a step back on that direction. And then Beautiful Lie does have a bit of an emo, shoe gazey feel. Hey, I’ll take that direction over Train anyday.
Otoh The BO tour was apparently a disaster lol
I’m interested to see what we get here
