It looks like the Goo Goo Dolls are revisiting “A Boy Named Goo” yet again. Back in 2015 they released a 20th Anniversary Edition which featured remastered tracks plus a total of seven live takes.
Today, the band published a video for one of the live songs (you can stream it below) which will be included in another edition, this time for the 30th anniversary of the popular record. You can check out a full track listing here. The album is set to release on March 14th.
Apparently, most of the live takes come from the Las Vegas section of this bootleg, plus four more takes they played at the Modern Rock event in Los Angeles which took place in 1996 and I couldn’t locate on setlist.fm. Last but not least, four b-sides are also included, although we have already hear them all through the years, and lately thanks to the Rarities compilation.

Let’s see if we have to wait until 2028 for the 35th anniversary edition of “Superstar Car Wash”… Or maybe they’ll do a 30th anniversary one for it? Only time will tell… Literally.
Exactly 30 years to the day, multi-platinum, four-time GRAMMY-nominated rock band Goo Goo Dolls are set to release a 30th Anniversary deluxe edition of their fifth studio album, A Boy Named Goo, on March 14. Originally released in 1995, this classic album catapulted the band to mainstream success and was Certified 2x Platinum within a year of its release. Driven by the smash hit “Name,” the record also included the singles “Flat Top,” “Naked,” “Only One” and “Long Way Down.”
The 24-track, deluxe 2xLP format will include the original album, plus an unreleased live concert performance recorded in Las Vegas on March 10, 1996. The 2xCD deluxe edition contains 34 tracks and includes the live concert, plus 4 B-sides from the era and 6 songs recorded semi-acoustically for the radio show Modern Rock Live in 1996. There is also a limited 2xLP edition pressed on sea blue vinyl available exclusively via the band’s webstore.
Fans can now stream the band’s Modern Rock Live version of “Name” while album pre-orders are possible also.
In addition, the band will take their lauded live show back on the road this year with an extensive run of summer tour dates with Dashboard Confessional. Kicking off on July 13, the “Summer Anthem Tour 2025” will bring the band to iconic venues coast-to-coast, including stops at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, Morrison’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater, Boston’s LeaderBank Pavilion, Chicago’s Huntington Bank Pavilion as well as a hometown show at Buffalo’s KeyBank Center. The band will perform a career-encompassing set that features multiple songs from their 2022 album Chaos in Bloom along with other hits from their complete discography, including their global hit “Iris.” The 4x GRAMMY-nominated track is now Certified Diamond and has amassed over 2 billion streams worldwide.
In addition, Goo Goo Dolls will be partnering with Joe Torre Safe At Home for the tour, a nonprofit founded in 2002 by Ali and Joe Torre to provide healing and education services to youth who have been traumatized by exposure to violence including domestic violence, child abuse, teen dating abuse and sexual assault to help break the cycle of violence.

I remember working at the movie theater in town that year. We would get these CDs from the theater chain to play in the lobby. Name was on one of them. We left that same CD playing for months. I still have it somewhere.
oh man I was just thinking this morning how Boy was hitting the 30th anniversary this year and just as I open my phone, I get like 5 emails about this. How cool!! I’m getting the colored vinyl before it gets sold out. I was desperately looking for Boy on vinyl the other day and they only sold them in the huge $200 box set, so I finally get to have it on vinyl!! Cool!
