Noobs are at it again. After having remastered the second and third Goo Goo Dolls albums, now it’s time for their 1987 debut to be improved (???) with the precious help of professional tools.
We recently provided our own remasters for “Jed” and “Hold Me Up“. Needless to say, we couldn’t have left “First Release” (aka “Goo Goo Dolls”), the band’s 1987 first ever full length, in its current, official state. Hence, here we have yet another revision of what I’ve always perceived as a collection of oftentimes strong and complex songs the band used to present itself to the music scene back in the late 1980’s.
If you’re curious about what type of software and techniques were utilized to create these remasters, I’d rather not repeat myself and I will simply re-direct you to this post.
What about the final result? Well, I think there are some noticeable improvements here. However, when I compared my works with the only song off of this album which was officially remastered by the band in past through their Ego compilation, that is “I’m Addicted“, I noticed that the latter has a better, more open sound. I find that to be quite obvious especially when the electric guitars take over during solos.
Maybe it’s just my imagination. Keep in mind that these remasters are made by an amateur who just happens to have access to professional tools used by real sound engineers. There is only so much that can be done here.
Anyhow, do you like them? Let us know what you think.
