Goo Goo Dolls Aren’t Going Gaga Over Fame – 1993 George Tutuska Interview

Here we have another interesting interview published in 1993, roughly one month after the release of Superstar Car Wash. This is is quite peculiar, as only former drummer George Tutuska was on record. For whatever reason, I cannot seem to be able to copy and paste the text. Hence, I was forced to take a screenshot of it and post it below.

Taken from here. Archived version here.

Very rare Christmas photo, featuring Lance Diamond

Time to add another rare picture to the Temple Of Goo archives. This time, I am sharing a very rare photo of the band featuring Lance Diamond. I am not sure about the correct date for it. It is certainly for a concert which took place on December 23rd, but what about the year? I’m guessing it was either 1990 or 1991.

Laughing (Music Video)

Officially, the first music video the Goo Goo Dolls ever released was the one for the song “There You Are“. In reality, there were at least two others (that I know of) which were recorded but not released to the media. The oldest one was for “No Way Out“. Nothing is known about it. I remember reading somewhere that it was recorded by John’s then girlfriend Laurie Kwasnik, the one who also helped him get into College to study to become a repairman, specifically a plumber. Laurie Kwasnik, along the years, has become a very successful filmmaker. She has an IMDB page too, located here.

The Curious Case of George Tutuska

A drummer is usually like the backbone.” – Brody Dalle

Please note: The information posted below comes from a collection of interviews and rumors I have read on the internet over the years. Do not take it all as completely representative of reality. Some things may be right, others may be totally wrong. This post only serves the purpose of discussing George’s role in the band, as I believe true Goo Goo Dolls fans would be pleased to know more about him both as a person and as a band member.

George Tutuska

George Tutuska was born in South Buffalo, NY on February 27th, 1965. His family was comprised of his parents and four sisters. Pretty crowded house, and not a lot of money according to him. If memory serves well, he met Robby Takac while attending Medaille College to become an English teacher, and they decided to form a band. Later on, John Rzeznik, who was in another band with Robby’s cousin, joined them in 1985. The trio was initially called Sex Maggots, before changing its name to Goo Goo Dolls. “They spotted a mail-order ad in True Detective magazine selling something called a Goo Goo Doll. And that’s how the Sex Maggots became the Goo Goo Dolls.

Stand Alone (A Boy Named Goo outtake)

Today I am sharing one of the rarest Goo Goo Dolls songs, which only appeared in an early advance copy of “A Boy Named Goo”.

As you can see from the pictures above, this advance copy was only sent out to radio stations and magazines as a way to promote the upcoming album. There are a few differences when compared to the final release, such as the song “Ain’t That Unusual” being named “Someday“, and “Eyes Wide Open” being the album’s last song. Song 11, “Stand Alone“, was written by George Tususka and only appears in this advance version. After he was fired from the band, another promo copy of the album was released, whereby the song had been taken out and replaced with two covers, “Disconnected” and “Slave Girl“.
