The Goo Goo Dolls aim to release an EP, “Summer Anthem”, soon. And possibly a new album by the end of their Summer 2025 tour

In case you missed it, Robby Takac recently did an interview where he mentions the band’s plans for the next studio album.

Truth to be told, I find this information a bit ambiguous, at least from a marketing perspective. Anyhow, Robby says they plan to release an EP titled “Summer Anthem” (same name as the current Summer tour with Dashboard Confessional) produced by Gregg Wattenberg, and then would like to release a full length when the aforementioned tour is over.

Make of that what you will. Below is the whole section of the interview where all of the above is discussed:

AY: What have you got going on right now? What can fans look forward to?

Takac: We released a single a little while back called “Run All Night,” which is a pretty great song. That will be included on a long-running EP that we’re going to put out called Summer Anthem. It’s produced by Gregg Wattenberg, who has done a lot on the past few records we’ve done. We’ve been working on that in New York. We were supposed to take last year off, and it turned into anything but that. We ended up doing a lot of shows, man. It wasn’t consistent touring, but we were out almost every weekend through most of the year last year, so it was really busy for us, so we’ve been working diligently to get a couple singles out by the time the tour starts and, hopefully, have a whole album out by the time the tour’s finished.

Official News: Goo Goo Dolls set to release “Nothing Lasts Forever” on July 11th, 2025

In case you missed it, here is the latest about the band’s newest single.

John et al. just announced that a song titled “Nothing Lasts Forever” is soon to see the light of day, specifically on July 11th.

Click here to pre-save it on the most popular digital stores.

Below is the cover for it.

My personal thoughts about the news (do not attribute any importance to this, it’s just me reflecting on the announcement):

  • Nothing Lasts Forever” is also the title of a song by the band Echo & The Bunnymen, a British Alternative Rock / Power Pop supergroup which John has claimed in several occasions to have loved ever since he was a teenager. Is the new single a cover for such song? Doubtful, but certainly possible. If you’re curious, may I invite to listen to this track from them, which I find to be amazing to say the least?
  • I am personally a bit worried about the title itself. Is the band signaling that this potentially is their last album? (That is in case the single is also used to title the band’s next full length)

Wanted: “Truth Is A Whisper” (Alternate Mix)

Dear Temple Of Goo readers,

A fellow fan has reached out to the Temple, asking for your help! They’re on the lookout for a special mix which was shared by the band on their website many years ago, before disappearing from the internet. Let’s take a look a this person’s request below:

Hello! I recently took a deep dive at the Temple of Goo YouTube page. I am a longtime Goo Goo Dolls fan and really appreciate some of the rare videos and tracks that you have accumulated. I am reaching out for two reasons. One, is that I have been searching for a long time for an alternate mix of Truth is a Whisper that the GGD posted waaaaay back in the day on the Inner Machine website around the time Gutterflower was released. (I believe they called it the Inner Machine back then?) I have not been able to find this mix anywhere. Are you familiar with this at all?

If any of you has a copy of “Truth Is A Whisper” (Alternate Mix), and feels like sharing it with the community, please consider contacting us!
