867-5309/Jenny

Not much is known about the Goo Goo Dolls cover for “867-5309/Jenny“, a Tommy Tutone hit which was released in 1981. Apparently, the band performed a cover for that tune in 1993, before the famous Metro show.

Superstar Car Wash Pre-Mixing Cuts (1992)

As many of you already know, years ago a series of “Superstar Car Wash” demo sessions leaked online. One of those leaks included Pre-Mixing Cuts of the final songs which ended up in the album. What is a pre-mixing cut? Let’s have the experts talk about it for a minute. The information below was taken from this source.

Although most people won’t notice it, when done right, it turns a song it into something better. Mixing is more than adjusting the volume levels of vocal tracks and individual instruments. Even though there are other parts of mixing, what is audio mixing in music and why is it important?

Audio Mixing is a process of blending individual things in a recording to come up with as good as a possible version of a song. The mixing process includes:

  • Fine-tuning the sense or sound of each instrument using and EQ (equalization)
  • Balancing pre-recorded track levels
  • Panning tracks between speakers to come up with a stereo image
  • Compression, Adding reverb and other effects, improve the already recorded song.
  • Taking your song from Good to GREAT!

Hold Me Up Promo Show – FM Broadcast (1991)

Today I am sharing with you a very rare and unique live show which took place in 1991 at The Industry, as part of a promotional effort for the Goo Goo Dolls’ 1990’s album titled “Hold Me Up”. To my knowledge, the concert was only streamed via radio. The band performed a total of seven songs.

La Di Da – A Sex Maggot Release

Another very rare audio material, unearthed from the depths on the worldwide web. Today I want to share with you a 3-song cassette sampler titled “La Di Da”, and performed by a band called Sex Maggot. Who were they? They were the Goo Goo Dolls, before they changed their name to the actual one. If I remember correctly, Sex Maggot was later converted into Sex Maggots, a name that was then dropped for Goo Goo Dolls when they released their first album back in 1987.

This cassette was recorded in 1985, and features the original members (John, Robby, and former drummer George Tutuska). In it, we find three songs. The overall recording quality is quite good for its time, I’m surprised to say. The first one is “Sex Maggot“, which ended up being included in their sophomore release “Jed”. The other two might be covers. I am not sure, as I did not recognize them. If you do, please reach out to me so I can give them proper credit.

MTV 120 Minutes short promo for “Superstar Car Wash”

Here is a very rare clip featuring the band doing a short promo video for their album “Superstar Car Wash”. This was shot on February 21st, 1993. They also make a brief introduction to their video for “There You Are“.

This is quite cool and extremely hard-to-find material which I recently discovered on YouTube. Originally posted here. The band cracks a few jokes, and we also get to see former drummer George Tutuska in a not-so-happy mood.

Enjoy it. Download links are also available below.
