Tell Me Something I Don’t Know (Superstar Car Wash Demo)

Like I mentioned before, there are several Superstar Car Wash demo sessions which have been leaked throughout the years. A good number of them feature a song called “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know“. To my knowledge, this song comes in at least three different versions:

  1. An instrumental demo
  2. A rough version with a few lyrics sung only by John
  3. A final demo version with full lyrics, sung by both John and Robby

Do You Believe? / My Girl – Uncut Demo Session

Today I present to you an extremely rare audio document, specifically one of the earliest collaborations between the band and the amazing Lance Diamond. In 1989 the Goo Goo Dolls teamed up with the Buffalo, NY singer to record two songs for a Christmas compilation. They performed the song “Do You Believe?” and a cover of The Temptations, “My Girl“. While the latter was obviously not written by them, I am not 100% sure about the former, that is whether it was original material they wrote themselves or another cover. I did some research online and came up with no answer.

I’ll Be There For You (The Rembrandts Cover)

In 1996 the Goo Goo Dolls were featured in a compilation titled “The Shredd -n- Ragan TV Theme CD”, which contained cover songs of TV opening themes. It was only distributed and sold in Buffalo, NY. for charity purposes. Among the other collaborators, we can also find their longtime friend Lance Diamond.

1994: A Bleak Year

Just like 1992, I consider 1994 to be a pretty empty period for the Goo Goo Dolls. It was also the year that established deep internal conflicts between John and former drummer George Tutuska, which I will talk about more in detail later in this post.

Laughing (Music Video)

Officially, the first music video the Goo Goo Dolls ever released was the one for the song “There You Are“. In reality, there were at least two others (that I know of) which were recorded but not released to the media. The oldest one was for “No Way Out“. Nothing is known about it. I remember reading somewhere that it was recorded by John’s then girlfriend Laurie Kwasnik, the one who also helped him get into College to study to become a repairman, specifically a plumber. Laurie Kwasnik, along the years, has become a very successful filmmaker. She has an IMDB page too, located here.

Stand Alone (A Boy Named Goo outtake)

Today I am sharing one of the rarest Goo Goo Dolls songs, which only appeared in an early advance copy of “A Boy Named Goo”.

As you can see from the pictures above, this advance copy was only sent out to radio stations and magazines as a way to promote the upcoming album. There are a few differences when compared to the final release, such as the song “Ain’t That Unusual” being named “Someday“, and “Eyes Wide Open” being the album’s last song. Song 11, “Stand Alone“, was written by George Tususka and only appears in this advance version. After he was fired from the band, another promo copy of the album was released, whereby the song had been taken out and replaced with two covers, “Disconnected” and “Slave Girl“.
