Superstar Car Wash Promo Pictures

Over the years, I have collected all the promo pictures I could find online, the ones specifically made to promote “Superstar Car Wash”. The easiest one to locate was obviously this:

Apparently there is one more photo from that same photoshoot session, and it even comes with colors. It is extremely rare and you can see it below:

Then, I located a colored version of the picture below. Its black-and-white counterpart is all over the web, and I thought it was the only available version. It turns out, I was wrong. I believe this one was made sometime in late 1992/early 1993.

Furthermore, we have the one which appears on the back of the album. This was likely taken before the next set of photos you will see scrolling down just a bit further. I speculate that this was too taken in late 1992/early 1993, as it features John with longer hair.

Another late 1992/early 1993 one, and extremely rare as well, appeared on a magazine of the time.

Sometime later, maybe a few weeks or months thereafter, they took another set. I like this set, it shows them being more relaxed, and having fun. John’s new haircut establishes a change in the timeline here, in reference to the picture above. I speculate, as far as pinpointing it on a calendar is concerned, that this other photoshoot session took place around February/March 1993.

Subsequently, we come to a latest discovery of mine. The next set was taken in May 1993, and it shows them hanging around the back of a house with a pool. I reckon these are extremely rare. George is boosting a goatee here, along with an injured arm.

In order to promote the release of the song “Fallin’ Down“, for which no video was shot, a promo CD was sent out to radio stations, along with a promo poster featuring another picture of the band. This is probably the rarest photo of that era.

The photo above was actually reversed. Here is what I believe was the original shot, which even comes with colors:

And there is more. This is a pretty cool one and comes from the same session, showing only John and Robby relaxing on what appears to be a hotel lobby couch.

Last but not least, a small-sized black and white photo of the band, only shown on the VH1 Behind The Music documentary.

And that’s all I’ve got. I don’t think there are any more, however if you do have other pictures not included in this list of mine, feel free to get in touch with me and I will publish them.
