John Rzeznik interview and live take for “I’m Still Here” (2002)

Today we share a pretty unique video clip showing John’s first attempt at a solo career, which happened back in 2002 when he was asked to pen a couple of songs for the “Treasure Planet” animated movie.

Contributor Bailey sent us a link to a YouTube video where John performs an acoustic take of “I’m Still Here“, one of the two tunes he wrote for the aforementioned feature film. This is the same version that we included in the special Compilation to celebrate our blog’s first anniversary.

After the performance, he sits down for a short interview with the hosts.

Overall, it’s an interesting peek into a special moment of that specific time. Personally, I thought he did so well with that soundtrack that it was likely he would have chased a solo career, at least for a while. However, it’s pretty clear he decided not to, and only stick with the band. He did participate to a number of projects without Robby and Mike at his side, though, mostly as a guest on other band’s albums and a few times even as a producer / assistant producer.

My favorite John participation as a single entity, rather than a band, is certainly the U2 cover he worked on back in 2005.

Thanks again Bailey for the cool material, which can be watched below. Originally uploaded by YouTube user Ryan Kirkpatrick.
