Some Very Random, Rare, Cool Goo Goo Dolls Pictures (1996-1999)

Today we share another collection of photos gathered by contributor Bailey, which cover the three years spanning from the post-“A Boy Named Goo” months to the post-“Dizzy Up The Girl” ones.

I see there is a couple of pictures here which may have already been published on the blog, while the rest is pretty new (at least to my own eyes…).

Bailey also forwarded her own comments for each sent photos, hence I will just let her do the talking:

Hello! I’m back again with a fairly large collection of pictures today.
Now these are all kind of “random” because they’re from, well, random places. And some of them are probably screenshots from videos and interviews (that I wish I had).

This first one I really like—not only because it’s in high definition—but because it’s a good shot. According to a few other pictures I have from this show, this was taken at the actual “Academy” show the Goos released a few months ago.

This next one is of John on a couch, holding a pillow circa 1998. Looks pretty candid to me.

This next one I have a feeling I’ve already shared with the temple but I may not have…anyways, it’s a blurry but really cool picture of John playing at what looks like the House of Blues in 1998.

This one was taken by a tour bus (perhaps it was the Goo’s bus) in 1996, and I’ve heard that this was a member of Cheap Trick. John doesn’t look very happy, haha.

This is a picture of Robby playing live in 1996, making a silly face for the camera. This was actually featured on my little birthday tribute to Robby, now that I think about it.

This one features John singing with what looks like a military hat on? Complete with Nike socks and shoes. And if I’m seeing this correctly, it looks like he’s playing his green glitter Stratocaster, of which there’s an entire collection of on the temple. (This is from 1999 I believe)

This is a very strange screenshot, and I seriously can’t remember where I found it. I didn’t take this screenshot, but I’m thinking this must’ve been before or after a show in 1998. I got tripped up the first time I saw it because I thought it was 1993, but he has “the dream” tattoo. He does look nice in this picture, though. Wish I had more information…

This picture makes me laugh! Robby’s making another goofy face through a fence for a fan who was taking the picture, in 1999.

This picture I would guess was taken circa 1996, because there’s some other pictures from a gig in 1996 that show him wearing these same sunglasses and featuring (what I think) is his natural hair color. I’ll leave it up to you to decide.

Oh, Mike. This picture is giving me airport vibes…maybe because of the gift shop thing in the background. I don’t know if that’s where it was taken, but this was from 1998 (when Mike sported very long sideburns)

In this one, it looks like Robby is watching TV, and I’m guessing it was taken in the same place as the one with John on the couch (above). So, this was probably 1998 as well.

Here we have Mike…but with vibrantly green hair! Oh wow. He never seemed like the Goo to go out of his way to stand out, like Robby dying his hair red or John and his leather pants and spikey hair—but apparently there was this! This was probably circa 1998, or the beginning of 1999. Side note here, this was probably taken with an early digital camera because for some reason those kinda of cameras make your eyes red in curtain lighting…weird.

I’ve been told this looks like it was taken for the cover of a GQ magazine, and maybe it was? Well, we have a high definition close up of Johnny in 1999 wearing a red turtleneck and suit, looking very professional. I personally like his more relaxed, happy looks, but this is pretty cool.

Speaking of more relaxed, happy photos, here’s one! I thought this picture was funny because—at least in the States—the boys’ hairstyles are almost exactly like his in this picture! John really has had every hairstyle, I’ll tell you that! This was at a gig during their DUTG tour, 1999.

Also from the DUTG 1999 tour, we have a close up better quality picture of Robby playing his silver Fender Precision bass.

This is during an interview just hours before a gig the big show somewhere in 1998. John looks like he’s back in 1995 in this picture, which is pretty neat. I was also about to say this was just an interview with John and Robby, but I can see Mike behind Johnny’s head.

And…last but not least, we have Mike, in action, in some very strange lighting, 1999. This almost looks photoshopped, since the orange and blue clash so much…it’s not though, don’t worry.

Whew! That was a lot of pictures, and I’m sure there’ll be more to come in the future!
Stay gooey,
Bailey
