John Rzeznik On “VH1 Goes Inside Awesome Movie Songs” (2004)

Contributor Christina provided us with yet another amazing release: a TV appearance lead singer and guitarist John Rzeznik did on the famous VH1 channel.

Those who are into trivia will find this video footage quite interesting. First and foremost, let’s see what Christina has to say about it:

VH1 really loved making pop culture factoid shows in the early ‘00s. I’m not sure my brain ever recovered from the amount of useless knowledge that these shows dumped into it, but here’s an example of one such show. The title is pretty self explanatory, with segments about various famous soundtrack songs, one being “Iris.”

This show appears to be “lost media” so I’ve erred on the side of including more content than not. Included are the full segments about 3 movies (Wayne’s World, Almost Famous, and City of Angels) — John makes very brief appearances in the first two clips, but feel free to skip ahead for the “Iris” writer’s block story.

I would add that this reinforces the theory that the band’s most famous and successful single (to date), “Iris“, was not a tune that had lingered in John’s brain for a while, which was unearthed when the need to obtain a cheque had emerged, but rather a spontaneous, almost instantaneous stroke of genius inspired and fueled by the right string of elements being presented to him.

In terms of video quality, this is your standard VHS rip coming with the typical 640x480p encoding, boosting pretty good visuals overall. Most of the footage here is other people and artists talking, so like Christina said you want to skip to the parts where only John speaks out about his interpretation of the matters at hand.
